나는 여행을 좋아하는 6학년 아들을 둔 엄마이다. 여름 방학 동안 우리는 발리로 한 달간 여행을 떠났다. 도착하자마자 바닷가에서 파도를 타는 서퍼들의 자유로운 모습에 단숨에 매료되었다.
그날부터 아들은 매일 오전 서핑 강습을 받았다. 나는 코코넛 주스를 마시며 아들의 모습을 카메라에 담았다. 물을 무서워하는 나는 직접 도전하지는 못했다. 뜨거운 태양 아래 아이의 피부는 점점 그을려 현지인처럼 변해 갔다. 그의 서핑 실력이 눈에 띄게 늘어갈 때쯤, 우리의 발리 한 달 살기는 끝이 났다.
가끔 한국에서 아들이 서핑하는 모습을 찍어 발리에 있는 선생님께 영상을 보내면, 선생님은 늘 반갑게 답장을 보내 주신다. 멀리 있어도 응원해 주는 친구가 있다는 것은 살아가는 즐거움을 더해 준다.

I'm a mom with a sixth-grade son who loves to travel. We went on a month-long trip to Bali during summer break. As soon as we arrived, we were captivated by the free-spirited surfers riding the waves along the beach.
Starting that very day, my son took surfing lessons every morning. I sipped coconut juice while filming him with my camera. I'm afraid of the water, so | couldn't bring myself to try it. Under the hot sun, my son's skin darkened until he looked like a local. Just when his surfing skills really started to take off, our month in Bali came to an end.
Now and then, I record him surfing here in Korea and send the videos to his teacher in Bali. The teacher always replies warmly. Having a friend far away who still cheers you on really adds joy to life.
